Dorchester is Dorset's County Town and sits in the heart of the Dorset countryside.
The town offers a wide variety of eating places, cafes, restaurants, pubs, and hotels. It also has many bed & breakfasts, guest houses, holiday parks and camp sites both within the town and the surrounding countryside. It is particularly famous for Judge Jeffries' Bloody Assizes and the Tolpuddle Martyrs, and also for being the home of Thomas Hardy. Dorchester is a market town, which is held every Wednesday. The main shopping area is South Street which has a mixture of local and national shops. Dorchester is easy to get to by car from either the A37 or A35, or by train. |
