The historic market town of Bridport has a strong community spirit, and a vibrancy that belies its size.
The town is set in beautiful countryside and hills, and is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast - a World Heritage Site. The town has plenty of shops, banks, restaurants and pubs. Most of the local pubs offer real ales and good food. The market is open on Saturdays and Wednesdays, offering a variety of stalls from local Arts and Crafts, fresh fruits & vegetables, meats and fish. At Buckydoo Square in the centre of town, you can sit and listen to local bands and street entertainers. Monthly farmers markets are also a regular occurence in the Arts centre, where you can 'try before you buy'! West Bay is approximately a mile and a half from Bridport. There you will find the harbour, with its boats offering trips along the Jurassic Coast. There are also pubs and restaurants at West Bay, along with kiosks providing fresh fish and chips. A new pier opened in 2005 which provides stunning views of the coast. Bridport's schools have an excellent reputation and are among the best in the county. The towns strong sense of community reflects in the low crime rate. |
