A pleasant, unspoilt Devon market town surrounded by beautiful countryside.
The town traces its origins back to Celtic times, and there is still a strong sense of history here. The church of St Mary, with its Saxon foundations, stands on the Minster Green in the centre of town, and a market is still held here every Thursday. As well as being in touch with its past, Axminster is a friendly and modern town, with a strong sense of community. The town is famous for its carpets, which have been made at the same site since 1775. The factory is now a tourist attraction in itself. |
